Marilyn

mrln2

I was Marilyn in '62
killing all my demons
with Vodka Gimlets, a few

and I was Aprhrodite
in Something's Got to Give
resplendent in the dailies
with four months still to live

Hello Mr. Cukor
I'm sorry that I'm late
I found myself detained
by a new barbiturate

Yes, I was blonde Venus
at the age of thirty-six
seeking absolution
with the milligrams I would mix

And now an image flickers
Blonde actress on the screen
in quiet desperation
yes, I was Norma Jean

Beyond the Ordinary Night

386px-A_full_moon_reflecting_off_the_river_-_NOAA

I move through dark and light
I see beyond the ordinary night

I see the shadows fall
The shadows disturb me not at all

I have a God who speaks
He speaks through art and rhyme
He speaks in subtleties that reach beyond all ordinary Time

Look

Look and you will see
A different side of me

Talk and you will find
Another facet of my mind

Touch and you will feel
A part of me that's real

Variety Says

Variety says, "The play's a hit"
But TIME will say, "It's just a skit"

where leading actors lose their way -- the victims of a sad cliche

and angry divas primp and preen -- to dominate the dying scene

Come join with me, the play's begun
We're going to have theatric fun

We'll get no Tony for our part
Although we play with mind and heart

And with each Act, we'll have to say,
"This play's a rage, in every way"

The Things I Do

There are those
And they are few
Who understand
The Things I do

There are those
And they are wise
Who see my face
Through any guise

Come be with me and you will see -- a colorful Reality

And you can be among the few
Who understand
The Things I do
